My New Toy

I work in technology.  However, I have refused to give up my paper based Franklin planner.  My personal agenda was written in the date slots so I could see everything at an easy glance.  My work meetings of course were on my laptop in Outlook.  My cell phone existed for calls, and more recently, for text messages (wow, I got fast typing text messages).  I refused to succumb to the world of PDAs.  I scoffed at those using "crackberries."  No, not me.

Ha.

My recent work changes have made it so that I am on numerous conference calls every day, not to mention continual email conversations as well.  I work 20 (or more) hours a week, but I do not have 'set' hours mainly just because it would be more difficult to do that than not.  In order to make my life easier in this scenario, I finally took the plunge.  This is what I got:

BlackBerry Pearl

Wow.

What took me so long????

Why was I fighting it????

I now understand the allure of BlackBerries.  I now understand why people insist that once you get one, you could never go back.  Not only is managing my work schedule tons easier, but my personal life as well.  I haven't even had it a week, and I am totally and completely hooked.  I knew there would be a learning curve with the typing (the Pearl has a qwerty keyboard, but most keys have two letters so the device can be so small), but that has already started to work itself out.  I can download applications to it, and already have a Google map program that gives me satellite pictures of the location, as well as turn by turn directions.  I can browse the Internet.  I get my work emails faster than my computer does.  I can play music on it like a regular mp3 player.  It has a microSD card slot so you can transfer stuff (music, pictures, videos, whatever) from your computer and put it on the BlackBerry, and vice versa.  It has a camera with better resolution than my first digital camera.  And least important but worth noting...it looks friggin' cool too!

All of the separate ways to manage my life, both professional and personal, are now on one device basically the same size as my closed Razr.  How silly of me to wait so long.  And nope...I'll never go back again!!!
