Week 2

Ah, pregnancy.  The time I had waited so (im)patiently for had finally arrived.  Since I achieved pregnancy through IVF, have medical problems and also have a history of miscarriage, I am considered high risk.  For the first 12 weeks, I have to be monitored by my RE.  This monitoring involves blood work (to ensure all continues to rise as it should), blood pressure, weight, symptom monitoring, ultrasounds as well as anything else that needs to be done.  After week 12, my risk for miscarriage decreases significantly, and I am released to a high risk OB/GYN who will maintain the rest of the pregnancy as well as the birth process.

As a bonus, you start counting from your Last Menstrual Period, so the date of conception is actually week 2 (if you are on a 28 day cycle, which mine would have been exactly).  I had the retrieval on Friday, November 17, 2000 which was exactly two weeks after my LMP.  On Monday, November 20, I had the transfer.   The following picture is the ultrasound (external ultrasound) from the transfer.

The large dark area is my bladder (which had to be full).   Below that is my uterus, and the bright white "line" is the three embryos.  You could distinctly see three separate dots when they first went it, but they snuggled up together so it appears to be a line.
